2018's GREEN ADVENTURES
You can be the change! During the festival, you can make a meaningful contribution to AOA's Sustainable Story.
It's the simple and small changes, like separating your garbage at the Trash Points, have respect for our new hard cups system and show a little love to our beautiful Gaasperpark. Together we actually have the power to make a positive impact on the environment!
Hard Cups & Bottles
We have invested in reusable plastic drinking cups and bottles to keep AOA waste-free. Leave No Trace has now become our motto for REAL. So, we would like to explain to you how the new system works:
For every plastic cup and bottle, you will pay a one-time fee of €1 when ordering your first drink. When you purchase your next drink, you can hand in your cup or bottle and receive a new cup/bottle without having to pay the €1 again. You can also exchange your cup/bottle for a recycle token. This token can be handed in for a new cup/bottle or you can keep it when you leave the festival as this token contains a unique code, which provides you with amazing AOA prizes after the festival and early access to the sale for 2019.
Bio-Degradable Plates, Cutlery & Napkins
Reusable drinking cups are only the beginning! All of our food partners will exclusively make use of biodegradable plates, cutlery, and napkins. After eating one our biologic dishes, you can throw your biodegradable ‘disposables’ away together with the GFT-trash.
During the festival, the trash bins will be emptied by our teams in our Fast Composting Machine. This revolutionary machine, designed by EcoCreation, will transform your GFT-trash and degradable plates into compost in only 24-hours. This process usually takes months! The compost will partially head to the farmers who grow our festival food and will be used to fertilize the Gaasperpark.
Together we will keep AOA’s festival grounds clean!
Pee & Poo
Did you know that even your trips to the toilet can serve our planet? We will be collecting it all, in collaboration with Ecotoilet and Waternet, to create fertilizer out of the phosphate.
AOA thrives on lots of energy and not only for dancing. (; We will use the power grid, whenever possible. Our Smart Power Plan, uniquely created for AOA, helps us to use as little power as possible. Besides that, we use Biodiesel from Goodfuels: this has zero emissions and is made of vegetable pulp and frying fat. Also, our onsite offices will run entirely on a battery powered by solar energy.
Being sustainable also means giving back to the society that is why we have our crew catering organized by The Colourkitchen. These kids, who find it hard to find a job, are being helped and trained to be young professionals.
Also, we decided to start working with volunteers for the first time in AOA’s history. We find it very important to give students a chance to build their experience in the dynamic world of festivals. So as of this year, we are implementing the AOA Contributors system, in collaboration with five students of the HKU.
Material Flow Analysis
To top it off, we asked Metabolics to analyze all the material input and output of the festival. This report will eventually show us how sustainable AOA is at this moment and will give us insights on how to improve our sustainability. More info: www.metabolic.nl.
Last but not least: save the trees! Download your entrance ticket on your phone instead of printing it! Together we can be the change. Let's party with conscious minds and leave no trace to our beautiful planet.
